Hong Kong Airlines has agreed to drop cargo flights carrying live dolphins after coming under pressure from the public.
Up to 6,400 people signed an online petition within a week demanding the carrier cease the transportation of dolphins after an internal memo with the carrier admitted to flying five dolphins from Oskaka to Hanoi on 16 January was leaked to media, Times Live reported.
"Since it is believed that transportation of this nature can result in endangering wildlife elsewhere, Hong Kong Airlines will immediately ban shipments of this kind," the carrier said in a statement to animal right activists.
Despite its decision, the carrier has still refused to disclose where the dolphins came from or where they were travelling to.
