Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess will return to San Juan today following the cancellation of a seven-night southern Caribbean voyage due to propulsion problems.
Arriving at her first scheduled port of St. Maarten four hours late on Monday, the vessel remained there overnight for assessment.
“Caribbean Princess has experienced a problem with her port propulsion motor which has resulted in reduced speed,” a spokesperson from the line said in a statement yesterday.
“Unfortunately, after careful review and consideration today, it has been determined that the ship’s current sailing must be cancelled to allow for repairs.”
Originally scheduled to call into St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Grenada, Bonaire and Aruba before returning to San Juan, passengers will now have the option to remain onboard until Sunday whilst repairs are undertaken on the ship. All passengers have been notified via a letter from the captain delivered to their staterooms, that full refunds will be offered along with a credit toward a future Princess cruise.
