Celebrating an award-winning year, honoured with world’s most prestigious hospitality awards
Luxury heritage hotel Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is celebrating its 1st anniversary as a bespoke new address for China and the world’s elite with a “Celebration of Romance” package.
Priced at RMB3,500 a night for two with Deluxe Room accommodation, the celebration showcasing one of Asia’s most romantic addresses literally sparkles with a champagne dinner at fine dining restaurant Pelham’s, followed by a bottle of bubbly with breakfast in bed the following morning.
Waldorf Astoria Shanghai’s anniversary follows a string of the world’s most prestigious hospitality awards collected since opening last year. Influential accolades have been extended from designer travel magazine DestinAsian’s 2011 LUXE List, to Travel + Leisure (USA) IT List of Best New Hotels 2011 and Conde Nast Traveler (USA) 2011 Hot List.
Travel + Leisure China ranked the hotel China’s Best New Hotel, National Geographic Traveler (USA) voted it Best Boutique/ Design Hotel and World Traveller Magazine honored the hotel with Best Heritage Hotel and Travel & Leisure ranked it among Top 10 Luxury Hotels.
Grand Brasserie was also voted Best Restaurant during Shanghai Restaurant Week, as the legendary Long Bar, restored to its former glory, was voted “Best Hotel Bar” by Whisky Live and Drink Magazine, City Weekend and That’s Shanghai.
Since opening in April last year, the former home to Shanghai’s most exclusive gentlemen’s club of the 1920s and 30s has welcomed a Who’s Who of royalty and international celebrities as guests.
Fairytale weddings have also become a signature of the historic landmark now restored to its former glory – complete with its legendary Long Bar. The 5-star icon has become the venue for some of Shanghai’s most glittering weddings – following a tradition set by one of America’s most graceful and stylish leading ladies, Grace Kelly, celebrating her engagement to Prince Rainier III of Monaco at the fabled Waldorf-Astoria New York.
“This heritage location at No. 2 on the Bund was also an immensely popular wedding venue back in the day, and is committed to continuing the tradition of being the most elegant host in the city for wedding celebrations,” said General Manager Simeon Olle.
The Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund is also committed to the local community as well as being a responsible corporate citizen. A festive season campaign in partnership with world famous silverware brand Christofle helped the Maitian Education Foundation obtain 3,000 dictionaries for schools in poor and remote areas of Yunnan. It also participated in the recent Earth Hour.
