Venue welcomes a line-up of major new EXPOtainment in 2012

AsiaWorld-Expo launches new iPhone app to enrich the EXPOtainment experience

The business performance of AsiaWorld-Expo – Asia’s leading exhibition, convention and events venue – continues to enjoy strong growth.  Having been in operation for just six years, the number of large-scale EXPOtainment events hosted at the venue grew to some 210 event days in the financial year of 2011-2012.  This represents double-digit growth – an increase of 26% – compared to the preceding year. Looking ahead, it is expected that the number of event days will sustain double-digit growth in the coming year.  In keeping with this trend, the total metreage sold in 2011-2012 was over 1.5 million square metres – an increase of 24% compared to the financial year of 2010-2011.  As a relatively new venue in operation for just 6 years, AsiaWorld-Expo’s expo business growth has significantly surpassed the new venues of Hong Kong’s competitors such as in Macao and Singapore.  Hence, in recent months the venue has been named one of the top three ‘Best Convention / Exhibition Centres’ in Asia at the renowned CEI Asia Industry Awards 2012.

AsiaWorld-Expo now accounts for close to 30% of the entire Hong Kong trade exhibition market, and contributed around HK$13.4 billion to the local economy in 2010. The spring electronics trade show held at AsiaWorld-Expo in mid-April 2012 reported over 3,600 booths – an increase of more than 10% when compared to the spring event last year. Riding on the enormous opportunities and enhanced connectivity presented by China’s 12th 5-Year Plan, including the development of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, AsiaWorld-Expo will soon be within a one-hour commute of all major metropolitan areas of the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region. This unique geographical location is expected to further drive growth and attract even more visitors from Mainland China.  In this regard, buyers and exhibitors are looking forward to the one-hour commute radius of PRD.

The market-leading status of AsiaWorld-Expo is reflected in the many large-scale EXPOtainment events that it continues to welcome, including Forever Asian & World Rally 2012, 2012 JCI Asia Pacific Hong Kong Conference, ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA 2012 and Asiafruit Congress 2012.  Nu Skin Enterprise will also hold its upcoming conference at AsiaWorld-Expo, which is set to break the previous record to become the biggest international conference ever hosted at the venue: some 18,000 delegates are expected to attend and participate in this mega event.

AsiaWorld-Expo is likewise honoured to host Lady Gaga’s four record-breaking, sell-out shows of The Born This Way Ball, as well as many other international and Canto-pop superstars including Jacky Cheung, Jason Mraz, Stone Roses, Korean idol Kim Hyun Joong, FTIsland and Music Bank, all of whom will be holding concerts at AsiaWorld-Expo. Throughout the summer, internationally renowned Cirque du Soleil will also be performing at the venue (12-15 July and 17-22 July). Acclaimed around the world for its highly sophisticated shows featuring a diverse and dynamic mix of circus arts, street entertainment, opera singers, ballet dancers and more, Cirque du Soleil is the perfect complement to the vibrant line-up of spell-binding entertainment available at AsiaWorld-Expo.

In order to enrich these visitors’ experience, AsiaWorld-Expo is launching its innovative new EXPOtainment Cube, which will enhance interaction with visitors by providing more information via on-site television broadcasts, radio broadcast, live entertainment and music.

The EXPOtainment Cube will make its debut next month with the “Are You the DIVA” finale competition, which will be held on 2 May to coincide with the first Lady Gaga world tour concert held in Hong Kong. Recruited publicly from various online platforms, the top ten finalists in this high-profile competition will perform at the EXPOtainment Cube on 2 May, with all ten finalists eligible to win a free Lady Gaga The Born This Way Ball concert ticket (Note 1). The grand prize of one night’s free accommodation in a deluxe room at Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel, including breakfast for two persons at SkyCity Bistro, will be awarded to the best performer on the day. This amazing prize is kindly sponsored by AsiaWorld-Expo’s hotel partner, Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel.

In addition to the exciting new launch of the EXPOtainment Cube, AsiaWorld-Expo will also launch its new iPhone app in May. Downloadable free of charge, this handy app enables users to easily browse concert information, as well as access a cool “flash light” feature that transforms their iPhone into a fluorescent light stick for use at concerts!
