Building tourism ties between the two regions, Sri Lanka has launched a range of initiatives to educate the Vietnamese’ travel industry of its products and experiences.
Earlier this month Vietnamese travel firms made a trip into Colombo as did a number of agents where they trekked around the region on a familiarization tour, Lanka Business Online reported.
Hanoi envoy to Colombo Ton Sinh Thanh said the trip would help tap into the fast developing Vietnamese economy as well as offer travellers “new destinations”.
"We hope that you can make use of the presence of leading Vietnamese tour operators here to bring the Vietnamese tourists," Mr Thanh said.
"We know that Sri Lanka is a very beautiful country.
“It is worth for Vietnamese tourists to come here."
The envoy added that the country was also planning a familiarisation trip for Sri Lankan agents and travel writers to “promote two-way flows tourism”.
Possible site-seeing locations include war memorials, ancient temples and walks along the country’s 125 beaches.
