The tourism industry has welcomed the UAE carrier’s decision to launch flights into Adelaide, with the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) expecting the new service to open new opportunities to showcase regional Australia.
Unveiling plans yesterday, the decision was part of an Emirates network shake up that would see the carrier add 15 new routes including its fifth Australian port within the coming six months with a four times weekly service between Dubai and Adelaide.
ATEC managing director Felicia Mariani described the move as a “positive” step for Australian tourism and expects the new route to open regional experiences to the international market as well as assist the industry achieve its 2020 overnight spend goal.
“This new Australian destination on Emirates network-map will give Australian tourism businesses, in particular those in South Australia, greater access to the European and Middle Eastern markets and ATEC welcomes this move,” Ms Mariani explained.
South Australian Tourism Commission chief executive Jane Jefferys concurred, adding that direct access to Adelaide would tap into “key international markets” in Europe, the UK and the Middle East.
The four times weekly service is expected to pick up to daily by February next year.Emirates already flies to four other cities in Australia including; Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
