For the sixth consecutive year, InterContinental Bali Resort was an official sponsor for the Annual Bali International Triathlon that took place around the village of Jimbaran on 24 June 2012. This developing event attracted over 700 athletes competing for a generous array of prizes in Olympic and Sprint distance race categories.
One day prior to the event, the Resort hosted an informal pre-race dinner for all athletes and their support teams. It was an opportunity for participants and organisers to relax in a social setting and discuss personal strategies. A high-carb menu was served to ensure that energy levels were high for the following morning. The race began at 7.00 am with a 1.5km swim in the waters of Jimbaran Bay followed by a 40km bike ride. The Resort’s Spa Garden was used as a transition point to collect and deposit all cycling equipment. A crowd of enthusiastic spectators gathered early to cheer on participants as they set off on an arduous ride around the hilly roads of Bali’s southern peninsular. The event concluded with a challenging 10km run.
The overall winner of the Individual Triathlon was Belgium athlete Stephane Vander Bruggen who crossed the line with a time of 2:07:14. He was followed just a few minutes later by Bryan Hoare of Great Britain who finished in 2:12.21.
The Resort also had its very own contingent of athletes from the Recreation Team competing in the Sprint category. It was a proud moment for InterContinental Resort Bali when these athletes all managed to cross the finish line with respectable times.
