Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu launched its brand new mobile phone application for the iPhone and iPad on 23 July 2012. The resort is the first Shangri-La property to introduce a paperless and eco-friendly mobile application guide on places to eat, play and shop in Kota Kinabalu. The app will serve to promote popular local eateries and tourist destinations, and the first hotel to offer such a comprehensive tourism facility in Malaysia. The mobile application took more than 12 months of research and planning to develop, and it is now ready for download at the iTunes Application Centre.
The mobile application named, “Insiders’ Guide to Kota Kinabalu,” is free of charge and anyone who wishes to find out more about Kota Kinabalu is welcome to download and use it. The application covers three main categories – dining, shopping and sightseeing. There are numerous activities and places to visit under each main category and everything is classified under a subcategory.
Within the resort, the application is made available to guests via the concierge desk where it is downloaded onto iPads for ease of reference and to further assist guests that do not own an iPhone.
“Kota Kinabalu is such a wonderful place to visit and to live, it would be selfish not to share all these amazing places and things to do with the whole world. The application’s content is compiled by our staff that are familiar with hidden treasures of this beautiful city and are happy to share their local knowledge with our guests. The application is informative, useful and, best of all, paperless and ecological. This application will enhance our guests Shangri-La experience and we will be making it bi-lingual in the near future,” said Andrew Steele, general manager of Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu.
