Etihad, Aer Lingus sign “historic” codeshare

Abu Dhabi based carrier, Etihad has announced a codeshare agreement with Aer Lingus, after purchasing a small percentage stake in the airline two months ago.

Etihad will codeshare on Aer Lingus flights from Dublin, Manchester and London Heathrow, and destinations in Ireland, the British Isles, the Channel Islands, Portugal, the Netherlands and the US, according to Airlines and Destinations.

Aer Lingus passengers arriving in Abu Dhabi will be permitted to board Etihad flights bound for Australia, Asia and the Middle East.

“Etihad Airways and Aer Lingus have signed an historic interline and codeshare agreement which follows the UAE national airline’s recent 2.987 percent equity purchase in the Irish carrier,” Etihad said in a statement, according to Yahoo News.

Etihad Airways president and chief James Hogan was excited about the opportunities available after acquiring a small percentage stake in the Irish carrier.

“We are delighted to announce this new codeshare agreement with Aer Lingus which will provide Etihad Airways’ customers with new travel options and flight connections to Ireland, the UK, continental Europe, and across the Atlantic to Boston and New York.”

Etihad and Aer Lingus will continue to discuss the potential for new business opportunities, codesharing agreeements and cost saving methods to develop a closer relationship.
