The Soneva Group, the new company formed following the sale of the Six Senses and Evason brands, is proud to announce the launch of its new website www.soneva.com. The new website reflects the group’s re-focused key commitments to developing the original Soneva intelligent luxury concept, as first expressed at the iconic Soneva Fushi resort. Other integral features of the brand’s business model include the development of private residences at Soneva branded resorts and its dedication to achieving environmental goals and a corporate commitment to sustainability.

The new website effectively communicates the world of Soneva and has been designed in a way to entice the visitor to ‘explore’ the site, just as Soneva encourages guests to explore the islands of its resorts and constantly find new and surprising discoveries along the way. The multifaceted nature of a Soneva resort is well represented on the new site through individual sections which take the form of postcards in the sand. It is when all these different elements combine – from Soneva’s spacious and unique villas, remote but accessible locations, enriching experiences and world class cuisine – that guests are ensured memories of a Soneva holiday to last a lifetime.

A homecoming

When Sonu and Eva Shivdasani built their home on the deserted island of Kunfunadhoo in the Maldives in 1995, their intensely personal vision of a locally crafted villa and environmentally responsible lifestyle quickly evolved into the iconic and multi-award winning first ‘castaway’ resort, Soneva Fushi, which pioneered a trend for back-to-nature luxury holidays.

Soneva Fushi established a blueprint for a highly acclaimed international business which paved the way for two further Soneva properties, Soneva Gili (2001), the Maldives’ first overwater resort, Soneva Kiri (2009), Thailand and a portfolio of Six Senses Resorts & Spas with award winning properties in Asia and The Middle East.  Under Sonu and Eva’s direction, the Six Senses brand gained a global following before being sold in 2012.

Today Sonu and Eva are committed to focusing solely on their first love – the development of the Soneva portfolio and real estate assets.  The Sonevas have many imitatators, but no equals. It is still the original barefoot luxurybrand and one of the travel industry’s greatest innovators. The acronym SLOW LIFE (Sustainable-Local-Organic-Wellness  Learning-Inspiring-Fun-Experiences) explains the Soneva philosophy. Intelligent Luxury, as interpreted by the Shivdasanis, is all about creating unforgettable, enlightening experiences that rejuvenate each guest’s love of SLOW LIFE. It is about illuminating lives whilst treading lightly on the earth.

Each Soneva impresses on a wide range of levels – from breathtaking ‘remote but accessible’ natural locations, effortlessly chic accommodation, incredible food and memorable activities to an inspiring ethos of sustainability and service that is uncannily intuitive.

The Soneva Group is currently made up of Soneva Fushi and Soneva Kiri in Thailand. The company also holds a majority stake in Six Senses Laamu and Six Senses Hua Hin properties. Further Soneva resorts are planned in Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Greece. Soneva Aqua, a new yacht experience, will be launched in the Maldives in 2013.

Soneva Life Style

Soneva Private Residences represent the ultimate expression of the signature experience and style for which Soneva has become world renowned: understated design and luxuriously spacious accommodation, uncompromising quality and service, and environmental sensitivity.

These extraordinary Private Residences are located in some of the most breathtaking locations in the world. Built with materials from sustainable sources, they tread lightly on earth by applying construction techniques that are adapted to preserve the integrity of the environment and local communities that surround them.

All private residences are designed to meet each owners’ specific requirements, whilst remaining true to the Soneva values of SLOW LIFE (Sustainable, Local, Organic, Wellness, Learning, Inspiring, Fun, Experiences) and the brand mission of Intelligent Luxury. Each villa is fully serviced, including a 24/7 ‘Mr / Mrs Friday’ butler service, complimentary transfers to and from the resorts and full access to all the island’s facilities.

Soneva made history by being the first developer to offer luxury homes for foreigners in the Maldives. Private Residences are currently available at Soneva Fushi and Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives and Soneva Kiri in Thailand. The Soneva Group will continue to focus on developing the private residence portfolio in these resorts as well as in future locations.

The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust

In 1995 Sonu and Eva Shivdasani created a pioneering vision for sustainable tourism which recognized the ability for luxury holidaymaking and care for the environment to co-exist with perfect ease. Today the Shivdasanis continue their unwavering corporate commitment to sustainability and remain pioneers for positive change within the tourism industry.

Each Soneva resort remains true to Sonu and Eva’s original vision of luxury accommodation with a commitment to protecting the environment and respecting the local culture and fragile host eco system which was to remain undisturbed by the opening of any new resort.  Each Soneva resort uses only natural and sustainable building materials, plastic is banned and as much produce as possible is grown or caught locally to support the group’s constant drive to lower its carbon footprint and to realize its vision to be totally ‘decarbonised’ by 2015.

For many years Soneva contributed considerable resources to charitable causes and in November 2010 The Soneva SLOW LIFE Trust was established as a registered charity to enable Soneva to effectively channel its philanthropic and environmental goals. Under the SLOW LIFE Trust umbrella Soneva has proactively implemented several initiatives to mitigate the carbon footprint of its guests including donating 2% of its annual revenue to the Carbon Sense Fund and partnering with PATT (Plant a Tree Today) to reforest a large area of Northern Thailand.

Six Senses’ water project resulted in revenues from the sale of water glass-bottled at source being channelled through three associated water charities, which in turn facilitated access to clean water to over 650,000 people previously denied this basic right. Extending the success of this project, Soneva will continue Six Senses’ water project and shortly announce another water inspired initiative, ‘Hotel Water’. The Soneva Slow Life Trust is a founding supporter of ‘Hotel Water’, a revolutionary initiative to encourage the hospitality and restaurant industry in general to follow the footsteps of Six Senses by serving water produced on site and donating some of the savings to charity.

Most recently Soneva became a proud partner of the Blue Marine Foundation, a foundation dedicated to preserving the world’s fragile oceans and supporting eco systems.
